McDonald’s Marketing Blitz Includes Drinkware Promos

Billboards with 14-feet-tall, 3D, steaming coffee beverages aren’t the only way McDonald’s is generating Ohio’s attention for new McCafe beverages, according to PROMO Magazine. The restaurant giant also gave away promotional coffee mugs at Ohio State University Aug. 30 during the OSU/Youngstown State game. Along with 75,000 coupons, McDonald’s reps handed out 6,000 McCafe mugs.

Other marketing means being used to increase awareness and demand for the specialty coffees include sampling, radio contests, a coin-toss tournament at OSU home games, virtual coffee-cup creation at www.wakeuptowhatsnew.com, and TV and radio advertising.

The marketing blitz is part of the company’s effort to compete with cup-o-joe mammoths, Starbucks and Dinkin’ Donnuts.
